The Participatory Situational Analysis for the Women and Child Protection Programme under SURAKSHA started in the month of August 2006 till February 2007. Complying with the funding agency requirement, 8 cluster villages including both coastal and inland area were selected in the two districts of Tuticorin and Tirunelveli.
Major achievements of the Project:
- Identified the vulnerable group
- Good rapport with the community and formation of CVGs and Children’s Parliament
- Emerged Women Leaders
- Identify the available resource in the community by people make use of it
To involve the community, some common awareness programs were conducted on women and children rights, Dowry Act, Domestic Violence Act and Information Act. The participation of beneficiaries was very high and it has facilitated the implementation of the second phase.
As a continuum of the Participatory Situational Analysis (PSA) new activities were undertaken in the target areas. Such as: formation of new groups and promotion of awareness building activities.
Since the month of February the second phase of Suraksha Women and Child Protection program has started. Children groups were formed in the target areas with good cooperation and support from the school teachers and the parents. Gradually, the concept of children’s parliament was introduced and the animators could start the activities planned for the year, including formation of children groups, awareness building program, street playing, conflict resolution program and so on.
